These books played dress up

BA Teen Halloween Display 2015

A selection of books at the Broken Arrow Library decided to join in on the Halloween fun by dressing up-- as people! They were kind enough to at least write their first lines on the back of their costumes. Come check out these YA titles based on their costume and/or first line, and take them home for a delightful surprise. No tricks here, just treats.

Broken Arrow Teen Zine 2015

Throughout the summer, teens from Broken Arrow and the rest of Tulsa County were given an opportunity to submit artwork and writing to the Broken Arrow Library Teen Zine. On July 30, a group of BA teens met under the supervision of Miss Hannah and Mrs. Rachel to put together a work of genius. The 2015 Broken Arrow Teen Zine stems from the combined efforts of 15 teens who submitted and/or edited the Zine into existence. They used the library Convenience Center to make copies & shrink things down to size, decorated with washi tape and markers, and paired artwork with writing. They picked an order for the submissions that made the Zine flow as you read and worked together in editorial bliss to make their creation one of the most exciting publications to come out of Broken Arrow all summer. Visit the Broken Arrow library in downtown BA to see the Zine in person, or check out the attached digital version below.

Feeling creative? Submit your work to Broken Arrow Library's Teen Zine, and then join us as we put it all together into an vintage-style Zine! What exactly IS a zine? We're glad you asked! A zine is a non-professionally created magazine that is self-published for very little money in small batches. Which means we're going to collage, copy, scan, and cut and paste (with scissors and glue!) to self-published glory. We're accepting submissions of all kinds; see the attachment for the submission form and more information.

Submissions will be accepted until July 24, 2015 at 6pm.

Submissions for use will be selected by teens at the "Make a Zine" program at the Broken Arrow Library on July 30th from 2-3pm.
