Libraries Accepting Applications for Teen Team
Most youths anxiously await summer vacation, but boredom easily can set in during the long break from school. Teens ages 13 to 15 who are looking for a fun way to beat the summer doldrums should apply for Tulsa City-County Library’s Teen Team. They will earn invaluable on-the-job training to build their résumés, plus make new friends.
Teen Team members assist librarians with the children’s summer reading program, shelving, and other library duties and activities. Some Teen Team members even get to masquerade as the library’s mascot, Buddy Bookworm.
By volunteering on the Teen Team, teens gain experience working with people both older and younger, and acquire organizational and clerical skills to prepare them for a paid position later. The library has hired several past Teen Team members after they reached the legal working age.
Tulsa City-County Library is accepting applications for the Teen Team through April 18. Interested teens must fill out an application, interview for the position, complete a training session and commit to work for several hours a week this summer. All Teen Team members will receive a cool T-shirt, plus at the end of the summer each member will receive a certificate and free movie pass.
Teen Team applications are available at all 24 Tulsa City-County Library locations and on the library’s Web site for teens at http://teens.tulsalibrary.org. Teens should return their completed application to the library where they want to work this summer. For more details, call Youth Services at 596-1638.
