CRITERIA FOR SEQUOYAH BOOK AWARD SELECTION:
Books considered for the Sequoyah Masterlists must be written by an author living in the United States, published three years prior to the award date, and have received at least one positive review.  Criteria for selecting books for the Masterlists include: literary merit, originality, timelessness, subject matter of interest to the appropriate age group, factual accuracy, clarity and readability.

Books on the Sequoyah Masterlists are selected by a Children’s Reading Team, an Intermediate Reading Team, and a High School Reading Team.  The Reading Teams are made up of Oklahoma Library Association members who agree to serve a three-year term. At the time of appointment, prospective members of the team must be public librarians or school librarians actively involved in the selection and or purchase of materials appropriate to the age requirements of the respective committees.
