Other statistics revealed that only 75% of American households had a refrigerator or ice box, 60% lacked central heat and three out of four farmhouses were lit with kerosene lamps. |

Description |
No trial provides a better basis for understanding the nature and causes of evil than do the Nuremberg trials from 1945 to 1949. Those who come to the trials expecting to find sadistic monsters are generally disappointed. What is shocking about Nuremberg is the ordinariness of the defendants: men who may be good fathers, kind to animals, even unassuming--yet were able to carry out the orders that resulted in unspeakable crimes. |

Fashion of the 1940's divides into two parts--pre-New Look and post-New Look. The era of the Second World War, with rationing and shortages, saw little change in clothing design. People had more important concerns. But after the war, Christian Dior's 1947 New Look ushered in a focus on fashion that remains today. |
