2014 Young People's Creative Writing Contest

The 2014 Young People's Creative Writing Contest is here! 

Brochures are available at all libraries, but here's what you need to know:

  • Contest is for ages 10-18
  • 3 age groups: 10-12, 13-15, 16-18
  • 4 categories: poetry, short story, informal essay, short play, and NEW IN 2014: Graphic Short Story. 
  • Contestants may enter more than one category, but only one manuscript per category.
  • Entries accepted May 1 – June 5 
  • Enter online, starting May 1st at http://teens.tulsalibrary.org/ypcwc/entryform, or by filling out an entry form (attached below).

Winners of the 2013 Young People's Creative Writing Contest Short Play category will see their visions come to life at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center this coming Saturday, November 14th at 7 pm. The PAC will present selections from all 12 award-winning plays. An accomplished staff of the University of Tulsa's Theater Department will perform the plays under direction of Michael Wright, Applied Associate Professor of Creative Writing, Theater, and Film. All the details are below!

Do you NaNoWriMo? November is National Novel Writing Month. "It's a fun, seat-of-your-pants writing event where the challenge is to complete an entire novel in just 30 days. " Last year 300,000 people participated in the NanoWriMo challenge. NaNoWriMo has a Young Writers Program taking place throughout November that is self-paced and features advice from well known authors. To participate, visit http://ywp.nanowrimo.org/ .
