Every year, in the third week of October, libraries across America celebrate Teen Read Week, promoting reading for the fun of it! This year's theme is "Get Away @ Your Library" and the dates are October 18-24....but Tulsa Libraries love teens and reading so much that we celebrate them for the entire month! October is Teen Read MONTH at Tulsa City-County Library. Check out our awesome events and programs--meet authors Rachel Vincent and Jennifer Lynn Barnes at Hardesty Regional Library on October 3; meet author Sonia Gensler at Helmerich Library on October 20th!

Teen Read Month - Oklahoma Book Award Winner, Sonia Gensler @ Helmerich Library

SONIA GENSLER is the author of two young adult novels, The Revenant (Knopf, 2011) and The Dark Between (Knopf, 2013), and a new novel for middle grade readers, Ghostlight (Knopf, releasing in Fall 2015). Things that go bump in the night are just the beginning in Ghostlight, when a summer film project in a frightening old house becomes a real-life ghost story.

Tulsa Libraries Don't Have It? Check Missouri and Colorado!

Picture it: you've just found the best series EVER, and you can't wait to race through all six volumes of marvelous, terrifying, exhilarating prose. You blaze through the first book, you speed through the second, and then you search the library catalog for the third, when suddenly--THE LIBRARY DOESN'T HAVE NUMBER THREE. Quelle horreur! What to do?! I HAVE THE ANSWER TO LIFT YOU IN THIS DARK HOUR! Listen to your librarian, y'all--search MOBIUS.

2014 Teen Read Month!

October is right around the corner, and at the Tulsa City-County Libraries, that means it's Teen Read Month!

Teen Read Week is an initiative of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA). It started in 1998, making 2014 the 17th celebration! In Oklahoma we love Teen Read Week soooo much we celebrate for the entire month of October. Why is it important to celebrate? For lots of reasons. Teens have so many options for entertainment, so it’s important to remind them to spend time reading for pleasure: it’s free, fun, and can be done anywhere. Research shows that teens who read for fun have better test scores and are more likely to succeed in the workforce.  There are so many possibilities that exist within the doors of the library and within the covers of books!
